Description

Among the old pilgrim road beyond Kestrel Gate, Lyraea is known less by reputation than by the moment after danger passes. Witnesses remember the quiet, the measured breath, and the sudden certainty that someone had already understood the room. As a elf wizard, she treats magic as a question that deserves a precise and dangerous answer. When trouble closes in, prepared sigils can turn knowledge into force at exactly the needed moment.
Lyraea learned the foundations of the craft from a disgraced watch captain, who demanded three answers before offering any lesson: who would benefit, who would pay the price, and what would remain when the excitement ended. Long memory sharpens both patience and the ache of unfinished grief. That inheritance shaped her habits but never dictated them. Lyraea still has learned that the most costly spell is often the one left unread, and keeps a cracked brass compass as a reminder of the first time good intentions proved insufficient.
The turning point came when the ash-robed judges of the old court arrived under legal seal and began removing people whose names had quietly vanished from the district rolls.
Officials called it an accounting correction. Lyraea called it a hunt. She broke the first convoy before dawn, led seven prisoners through service tunnels beneath the ward, and left the empty wagon in the magistrate's courtyard. From that morning onward, every reward posted for her capture also became a warning to those who might otherwise have stood alone.
Recently, Lyraea uncovered a sealed letter written in a dead person's hand. The clue connects the old arrests to a chamber beneath the city where a forgotten agreement is still being enforced. Now the trail has narrowed to one dangerous purpose: recover a truth powerful people paid to bury. Lyraea has accepted that the next door may close forever once crossed. Even so, the equipment is ready, the route is memorized, and one place beside the fire has been left empty for whoever returns.
