Ferrum the Steadfast learned the foundations of the craft from a disgraced watch captain, who demanded three answers before offering any lesson: who would benefit, who would pay the price, and what would remain when the excitement ended.
Purpose is no longer an order received, but a question answered each day. That inheritance shaped his habits but never dictated them. Ferrum the Steadfast still will not spend another life merely to satisfy a command, and keeps a key whose lock no longer exists as a reminder of the first time good intentions proved insufficient.

Recently, Ferrum the Steadfast uncovered a message concealed inside a temple bell. The clue connects the old arrests to a chamber beneath the city where a forgotten agreement is still being enforced. Now the trail has narrowed to one dangerous purpose: return a stolen name to its rightful owner. Ferrum the Steadfast has accepted that the next door may close forever once crossed. Even so, the equipment is ready, the route is memorized, and one place beside the fire has been left empty for whoever returns.
