Description

Among the salt stairs of Greyharbor, Dargan Redmarsh is known less by reputation than by the moment after danger passes. Witnesses remember the quiet, the measured breath, and the sudden certainty that someone had already understood the room. As a half-orc artificer, he builds small, stubborn mechanisms from scrap metal and patient thought.
When trouble closes in, tools become traps, keys, shields, or unexpected companions.
Dargan Redmarsh learned the foundations of the craft from a retired caravan scout, who demanded three answers before offering any lesson: who would benefit, who would pay the price, and what would remain when the excitement ended.
Hard-won restraint matters more than the expectations of strangers. That inheritance shaped his habits but never dictated them. Dargan Redmarsh still trusts a repaired device more readily than an easy promise, and keeps a tiny glass vial filled with red sand as a reminder of the first time good intentions proved insufficient.
The turning point came when a company of oathless mercenaries arrived under legal seal and began removing people whose names had quietly vanished from the district rolls. Officials called it an accounting correction. Dargan
Redmarsh called it a hunt. He broke the first convoy before dawn, led seven prisoners through service tunnels beneath the ward, and left the empty wagon in the magistrate's courtyard.
From that morning onward, every reward posted for his capture also became a warning to those who might otherwise have stood alone.
Recently, Dargan Redmarsh uncovered a familiar mark cut into fresh stone. The clue connects the old arrests to a chamber beneath the city where a forgotten agreement is still being enforced. Now the trail has narrowed to one dangerous purpose: expose the bargain hidden beneath the city charter.
Dargan Redmarsh has accepted that the next door may close forever once crossed. Even so, the equipment is ready, the route is memorized, and one place beside the fire has been left empty for whoever returns.
