Description

Among the copper bridges of Tarn, Brannoc Rainbark is known less by reputation than by the moment after danger passes. Witnesses remember the quiet, the measured breath, and the sudden certainty that someone had already understood the room. As a firbolg wizard, he treats magic as a question that deserves a precise and dangerous answer. When trouble closes in, prepared sigils can turn knowledge into force at exactly the needed moment.
Brannoc Rainbark learned the foundations of the craft from a battlefield surgeon known for impossible rescues, who demanded three answers before offering any lesson: who would benefit, who would pay the price, and what would remain when the excitement ended. Strength is offered quietly, with no need for witnesses or ceremony. That inheritance shaped his habits but never dictated them. Brannoc Rainbark still has learned that the most costly spell is often the one left unread, and keeps a narrow strip of blue cloth as a reminder of the first time good intentions proved insufficient.
The turning point came when the wardens of a prison absent from every map arrived under legal seal and began removing people whose names had quietly vanished from the district rolls. Officials called it an accounting correction. Brannoc
Rainbark called it a hunt. He broke the first convoy before dawn, led seven prisoners through service tunnels beneath the ward, and left the empty wagon in the magistrate's courtyard.
From that morning onward, every reward posted for his capture also became a warning to those who might otherwise have stood alone.
Recently, Brannoc Rainbark uncovered a trail of blue wax beneath the city. The clue connects the old arrests to a chamber beneath the city where a forgotten agreement is still being enforced. Now the trail has narrowed to one dangerous purpose: open the gate that was sealed a generation ago.
Brannoc Rainbark has accepted that the next door may close forever once crossed. Even so, the equipment is ready, the route is memorized, and one place beside the fire has been left empty for whoever returns.
