Opis
Among the lantern quarter of Dun Aster, Copper Psalm is known less by reputation than by the moment after danger passes. Witnesses remember the quiet, the measured breath, and the sudden certainty that someone had already understood the room. As a warforged wizard, he treats magic as a question that deserves a precise and dangerous answer.
When trouble closes in, prepared sigils can turn knowledge into force at exactly the needed moment.
Copper Psalm learned the foundations of the craft from an exile who never gave a true name, who demanded three answers before offering any lesson: who would benefit, who would pay the price, and what would remain when the excitement ended. Purpose is no longer an order received, but a question answered each day. That inheritance shaped his habits but never dictated them. Copper Psalm still has learned that the most costly spell is often the one left unread, and keeps a copper coin pierced through the center as a reminder of the first time good intentions proved insufficient.
The turning point came when a cult that listens beneath locked floors arrived under legal seal and began removing people whose names had quietly vanished from the district rolls.
Officials called it an accounting correction. Copper Psalm called it a hunt. He broke the first convoy before dawn, led seven prisoners through service tunnels beneath the ward, and left the empty wagon in the magistrate's courtyard. From that morning onward, every reward posted for his capture also became a warning to those who might otherwise have stood alone.
Recently, Copper Psalm uncovered a familiar mark cut into fresh stone. The clue connects the old arrests to a chamber beneath the city where a forgotten agreement is still being enforced. Now the trail has narrowed to one dangerous purpose: expose the bargain hidden beneath the city charter.
Copper Psalm has accepted that the next door may close forever once crossed. Even so, the equipment is ready, the route is memorized, and one place beside the fire has been left empty for whoever returns.
