Opis
Among the frostbound walls of Veyr, Karnak the Crimson
Shade is known less by reputation than by the moment after danger passes. Witnesses remember the quiet, the measured breath, and the sudden certainty that someone had already understood the room. As a tiefling warlock, he draws power from a bargain whose smallest clauses are still unfolding.
When trouble closes in, strange signs and borrowed fire answer when ordinary weapons fail.
Karnak the Crimson Shade learned the foundations of the craft from the last keeper of a roadside shrine, who demanded three answers before offering any lesson: who would benefit, who would pay the price, and what would remain when the excitement ended. Suspicion from others has been answered with humor, preparation, and chosen loyalty. That inheritance shaped his habits but never dictated them. Karnak the
Crimson Shade still records every favor granted by the unseen patron and intends to settle the account, and keeps a weathered oath-ring as a reminder of the first time good intentions proved insufficient.
The turning point came when the magistrates of the Silent
Ledger arrived under legal seal and began removing people whose names had quietly vanished from the district rolls.
Officials called it an accounting correction. Karnak the
Crimson Shade called it a hunt. He broke the first convoy before dawn, led seven prisoners through service tunnels beneath the ward, and left the empty wagon in the magistrate's courtyard. From that morning onward, every reward posted for his capture also became a warning to those who might otherwise have stood alone.
Recently, Karnak the Crimson Shade uncovered a coded warning hidden in a tax register. The clue connects the old arrests to a chamber beneath the city where a forgotten agreement is still being enforced. Now the trail has narrowed to one dangerous purpose: return a stolen name to its rightful owner. Karnak the Crimson Shade has accepted that the next door may close forever once crossed. Even so, the equipment is ready, the route is memorized, and one place beside the fire has been left empty for whoever returns.
